Beypore Beach is10 km to the south of Kozhikode or Calicut located at the mouth of the Chaliyar River in Kerala. During the ancient times, Beypore was one of the most important port and fishing harbor of Kerala. It was significant as the trade and maritime center for merchants from Western Asia. Beypore was also famous for the Ship Building industry. Uru, the traditional Arabian trading vessel, was constructed at the boat-building yard of Beypore. The major attraction of Beypore Beach is a bridge built entirely of stone piled together to make a pathway almost 2 km into the sea.
Kovalam Beach is famous not only in India but all over the world. International tourist, especially the Europeans, throng this beach since 1930's. Kovalam Beach comprises of three small crescent-shaped beaches adjacent to each other. The Lighthouse Beach is the southern most beach and the most popular haunt of the tourists. Hawa Beach is the middle beach looking across the rocky headland. You may catch a glimpse of the local fishermen early in the morning. The last of all the beaches, Samudra Beach has remained the same over last few years and was least effected by the changing times. You may come across a few simple wooden fishing vessels line the beach.
Marari Beach is located at a distance of 12 km from Alleppey in the fishing village of Mararikulam. Poovar Beach, near the Kovalam Beach, separates the River Neyyar from the sea. Poovar is basically a fishing village and the only way to reach Poovar is through water taxis. Known for its pristine and virginal, Poovar Beach is haunted by those who love solitude. Beach activities and water sports are not developed in this beach because of the fishing population. Poovar Beach is ideal for relaxation.
Varkala Beach is located at a distance of 54 km from Thiruvananthapuram. Varkala is famous not only as a beach resort but is also a famous pilgrimage center and is known as the 'Southern Kashi'. The mineral water springing from the hills around Varkala Beach is believed to possess medicinal and curative properties. Many people come here to drink and bathe in the mineral water of the springs. It is believed that by bathing at the Papanasam Beach at Varkala washes your sins away. The Sree Janardhana Swami Temple at Varkala is 800 years old and is dedicated to Ayyapan and Hanuman.
